Samsung Electronics has unveiled its ambitious vision for the future of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, aiming to deliver a more intuitive and convenient user experience. Shared during a press conference at CES® 2024, Samsung, in collaboration with key partners, outlined the technological underpinnings of this vision and demonstrated how new products and services leverage AI capabilities to simplify life.

Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO, and Head of Samsung’s Device eXperience (DX) Division, emphasized the role of AI in seamlessly enhancing connected technologies. The overarching strategy aims to make connected experiences both straightforward and practical, ensuring that AI operates unobtrusively "in the background" to improve daily lives.

Han stated, “With the emergence of artificial intelligence, smarter, better experiences will redefine how we live. Samsung’s broad portfolio of powerful devices, along with the pursuit of open collaboration, will help bring AI and hyper-connectivity to all.”

AI-Enhanced Visual Display Products and Digital Appliances Transform Home Experiences

Jonathan Gabrio, Head of Connected Experience Center at Samsung Electronics America, showcased how AI technology is reshaping the usage of Visual Display products and Digital Appliances. The Samsung Neo QLED 8K QN900D, for instance, features a built-in AI Processor, NQ8 AI Gen 3, with an 8 times greater AI neural network and a two times faster NPU than its predecessor. This processor automatically up scales low-resolution content to deliver an impressive 8K quality viewing experience. The Neo QLED 8K also introduces features like AI Motion Enhancer Pro and Active Voice Amplifier Pro, optimizing audio and visual experiences.

Inclusive design is a key focus, with accessibility features such as sign language recognition and real-time Audio Subtitles catering to users with different needs. Samsung's new The Premiere 8K projector and Music Frame speaker further enrich the home entertainment experience, offering a cinematic display and synchronized audio with Samsung TVs and soundbars.

Evolving AI Companions and Smarter Kitchen Appliances

Samsung's AI robot, Ballie, introduced at CES 2020, has evolved into a versatile AI companion capable of interacting with other smart devices. It now offers customized services, from handling tasks to projecting information on walls for users' convenience.

In the realm of kitchen and food experiences, Samsung unveils the Bespoke 4-Door Flex™ Refrigerator with AI Family Hub™+1 2. This refrigerator incorporates AI Vision Inside3, recognizing up to 33 different food items and suggesting recipes. It also helps reduce food waste by notifying users of approaching "use by dates." The Anyplace Induction range enhances AI connectivity, allowing recipes from Samsung Food to be seamlessly shared with the cook top's display.

Beyond the kitchen, Samsung introduces the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo™, an All-in-One washer and dryer, and the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo™5, a vacuum and mop robot cleaner, both utilizing AI technology for personalized and efficient experiences.

Galaxy Book4 Series: Samsung's Most AI-Ready Laptop

Collaborating with Microsoft, Samsung introduces the Galaxy Book4 series, showcasing advanced connectivity features that make the laptops smoother, smarter, and more adaptable. Microsoft Copilot7 enhances integration with Samsung Galaxy smartphones, enabling seamless collaboration. The Galaxy Book4 series can turn the smartphone's camera into a PC webcam, offering versatile video call options and integrating features like Background Blur and Auto-framing.

The collaboration between Samsung and Microsoft promises ongoing advancements, with more intelligent capabilities planned for the Galaxy Book4 series starting from March. The laptops can also pair with other Galaxy devices, expanding their capabilities as an all-encompassing PC experience.

Spatial Intelligence: Transforming User-Device Interaction

Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of Smart Things, emphasized the impact of AI on user-device interaction, particularly within the Smart Things ecosystem. Spatial AI plays a crucial role in understanding users' living spaces and routines, contributing to a personalized home management experience. Smart Things utilizes LiDAR9 to create digital floor plans, enabling users to monitor device status and location easily.

In March, Smart Things will introduce the upgraded 3D Map View for a more detailed experience on Samsung smartphones and TVs. The Bixby voice assistant further enhances smart homes, dynamically routing commands based on user location and activities. Multi Device Wake up and shared communication protocols allow Bixby to respond intelligently to commands across devices in a room.

The TV, through services like Samsung Daily+ and Connec Time, becomes a central hub for smart home functionalities, offering video calls, veterinary consultation services, and Workout Tracker. The new Samsung Now+ service displays useful information about users' homes, such as weather or live security camera feeds, accessible through voice commands.

Home-to-Car Connectivity: Partnering with Hyundai and HARMAN

Samsung announced a partnership with Hyundai Motor Group, enabling Home-to-Car and Car-to-Home services through Smart Things connectivity. Users can remotely control car functions via voice commands, such as pre-heating or adjusting windows. Conversely, Smart Things allows users to manage home functions from their vehicles, including controlling garage doors and regulating home temperature.

The collaboration with HARMAN focuses on enhancing the driving experience through technologies like HARMAN Ready Care, which monitors driver safety using deep learning neural networking techniques. Ready Vision brings an augmented reality display to windshields, providing real-time updates and recommendations for drivers.

Security and Privacy in a Hyper-Connected Era

Samsung prioritizes security and privacy in the era of AI-enabled interconnected devices. Shin Baik from the Mobile eXperience Security Team discussed security solutions like Samsung Knox Matrix, offering end-to-end encryption across devices. Knox Vault extends protection to more devices connected by Smart Things, ensuring user data safety.

Advancements in Sustainability, Energy Efficiency, and Accessibility

Inhee Chung, Vice President of the Samsung Corporate Sustainability Center, highlighted Samsung's commitment to a circular economy. The company incorporates recycled materials into products, with initiatives like the Certified ReNewed program offering refurbished phones. Smart Things AI Energy Mode optimizes energy usage, contributing to environmental responsibility.

A collaboration with Tesla enhances Smart Things Energy, integrating with Tesla products for increased utility both inside and outside the home. Smart Things can notify users of severe weather through the Tesla app on connected Samsung TVs and phones, enhancing preparedness for power outages.

Samsung continues to enhance device accessibility, introducing features like hands-free gesture control for digital appliances, auto-generated captions during calls on mobile devices, and AI-enabled text-to-speech on TVs. The Relumino Together viewing mode on Samsung TVs ensures an inclusive entertainment experience for users of all abilities.
